Bhutan Stock Market Report [Jan ’24]
In Bhutan stock market, start of a year is also a start of bullish sentiment which usually lasts until the end of March.
You must have realized this looking at the gains of some tickers and their trade volumes as well.
In this perspective, I don’t consider first quarter as a good time for adding new counters in the portfolio.
I also didn’t do much though I intend to do a rebalancing exercise among few counters of my portfolio.
Our central bank RMA introduced that 10% forex remittance incentive for an entire February month.
TBank Ltd launched an international Visa debit card. It’s a welcome news after BOB scrapped off it few years back.
So, now let me share how the Bhutan stock market and also my portfolio performed this Jan.
How Was the Stock Market of Bhutan?

This month, there was total trades of Nu.59.72M. 48% of them was OTC trades and rest mCaMs trades.
Benchmark Index
S&P 500 attained the record highest this month. Our BSI didn’t make the record, but increased by substantial points.

Individual Stocks
This January month, 2 counters ended down in red, 8 in green and rest 8 tickers remained unchanged.
If we look at significant gainers/losers, BTCL gained the most and DWAL lost the most. SVL still trades below face value.
Did I Make Changes in Total Holdings?
Tickers BUY
I bought 411 shares of PCAL at Nu.80. I had some idle cash and PCAL is still blinking in red.
The actual investment is Nu.32,880. The balance is a brokerage fee paid to Serzhing Securities.
Tickers SALE
Just like other months, I didn’t sell any ticker this month as well. I am in a long-hold.
How CD’s Stock Portfolio Performed?
4 counters in my portfolio are below their purchase prices. But 7 of them are still positive. The biggest gainer is BIL.
This month’s unrealized profit is a new record. It beat last highest record of August 2023.
The overall unrealized profit is 15.92% and the unrealized loss is 0.96% in the current value of my stock portfolio.
The Month’s Lessons & Future Plans?
In Bhutan stock market, seems we’ll be better off selling all our holdings prior to bonus/auction and then getting back in later.
I am sharing this from the trailing observation of BNBL, RICBL and DPNB shares. However, they might rise this AGM season.
How was your stock portfolios in Jan? Did it keep up your expectations? What’s your plan for next month?
