Bhutan Stock Market Report [Dec ’24]
The final month of the year just came to an end. If 2024 wasn’t good, nice that it ended. It was a year of breaks, realization and contemplation.
Realization – the importance of financial plannings and savings. My long career break for the year won’t have been possible without them.
Contemplation – wondering ways of replenishing the savings and returns used which also reduced my overall investment.
When it comes to investing, there weren’t much except purchase of a few units of TBL. The market wasn’t good to sell my holdings in BIL.
Non-resident Bhutanese (NRB) or Bhutan living abroad (BLA) could invest in GMC Nation Building Bond.
Since our country is in need of only more foreign currencies, I am worried there will be such an opportunity for Bhutanese living in Bhutan.
Let us check the performance of Bhutan stock market through its overall index, and individual tickers for the month of December.
How Was the Stock Market of Bhutan?
Market Situations
The total market trade decreased by Nu. 6.7 millions. The total trade was Nu. 86.5 millions – 62% OTC and 38% mCaMs trades.
Benchmark Index
Bhutan Stock Index (BSI), the index of the stock market in Bhutan, started at 1506.37 and ended at 1451.64 points.
This means the index lost 54.73 points indicating a bearish sentiment in an overall market.
Individual Stocks
If we look at counters individually, not significant change. 2 tickers closed in green, 13 in red and 3 remained unchanged.
When it comes to significant gainers or losers, BTCL gained the most and DFAL lost the most.
Did I Make Changes in Total Holdings?
Tickers BUY
I purchased 500 units of TBL at Nu. 41.50. It’s down. I added to improve my average purchase price.
The actual investment in my CD Account will be Nu. 20,750. The balance is the fees I paid to my stock broker.
Tickers SALE
No Sale.
How CD’s Stock Portfolio Performed?
5 counters in my portfolio are below their purchase prices. But 2 of them are still positive. The biggest gainer is BIL.
This month, unrealized profit increased by less than 1%. However, a loss is almost equal to that of last month.
The Month’s Lessons & Future Plans?
PCAL traded at Nu.36.50 – below its public auction price. Looking at the trade trend, I think it will come down more!
This means PCAL has become cheaper and people who loaded it during the auction are now in loss.
This is how stock market in Bhutan works – public auction hasn’t proven profitable for retail investors.
When I sold 100% of my holding with RICB, it reduced my stock portfolio almost by 50%. I used it for my Australia student visa.
I will be in Australia from 2025 doing my masters. Since I am already 35, probably I will have to return after 2 years.
There will be academic and new-life pressures. I shall try my level best to blog just like past years. You can expect new perspectives!
How was your portfolio this month? Did it meet your expectations? Your plans for next month?
