Bhutan Stock Market Report [May ’24]
Some of the companies declared cash dividends and non-cash dividends last month. Bhutan stock market was optimistic and bullish.
Bhutan Stock Index (BSI) also reached the record highest. However, once the ex-dates for those dividends have been passed people started selling bringing down the prices.
It is why I think Bhutanese retail investors must be investing in stock just for cash dividends though it’s just one of the many returns.
Out of 10 tickers in my stock portfolio, 6 of them declared cash dividends and one of them declared non-cash dividend (bonus shares).
I received total dividend of Nu.96,858.23 this year – 3X of 2023 dividend income. I will gradually re-invest them in the stock market.
Keeping the general introduction that much, let us go through the Bhutan Stock Market report, and how CD Portfolio did for the month.
How Was the Stock Market of Bhutan?
Market Situations
The total trade volume of the market decreased by Nu.68M compared to last month. The total trade was Nu.66.60M – 48% OTC and 52% mCaMs trades.
Benchmark Index
Bhutan Stock Index (BSI) started the month at a higher points of 1525.85 and ended at 1492.17 points.
BSI lost 33.68 points this month. It shows an overall bearish sentiment of the market during the month.
Individual Stocks
In May 2024, 9 counters ended down in red, 4 in green and 5 tickers didn’t change.
If we look at significant gainers / losers, BTC gained the most and DWAL lost the most.
Did I Make Changes in Total Holdings?
Tickers BUY
This May month, I purchased few shares of TBL, BIL, and DWAL. The net investment is Nu.98,427.75 without the 1% commission.
They were purchased from the sale proceeds of BNB and cash dividend I received. I will gradually re-invest all the dividend.
Tickers SALE
I sold 100% stakes in BNBL. Since it has the highest number of shares in the market, it doesn’t move much for holding profitability.
How CD’s Stock Portfolio Performed?
2 counters in my portfolio are below their purchase prices. But 7 of them are still positive. The biggest gainer is BIL.
This month’s unrealized profit is the lowest till now in 2024. But the loss didn’t change much.
The overall unrealized profit is 12.21% and the unrealized loss is 0.36% in the current market value.
The Month’s Lessons & Future Plans?
I resigned from my job as mentioned last month. The work pressure was so much that I needed a break for my body and soul.
This is one good thing about financial security – it helps us to take career breaks or simply move away from work we don’t love to do.
During this break, I might be able to give more time to this blog, and also my portfolio. I will review my holdings in Bhutan stock market.
One more thing – I am taking driving lessons from a friend. I also bought a tent and hiking boots for hiking and camping adventures.
How was your stock portfolio in May? Did it keep up your expectations? What’s your plan for next month?
