Bhutan Stock Market Report [Mar ’24]
All the public listed companies in Bhutan must have their annual general meeting before 30th April.
It’s a mandate as per the Companies Act of Bhutan 2016. However, most of the companies convene it towards the end of March.
Therefore, you must have observed the bullish sentiment in Bhutan stock market gradually building up.
Our benchmark index Bhutan Stock Index (BSI) too attained all-time-high (ATH) at 1514.83 points.
It’s because most of the tickers also reached ATH this month. Looking at sell and buy volumes, I think trade value also will be high.
This development gave me a chance to sell my DPL shares. I am down to 10 counters now. I might consider reducing to 8.
Let me us go through the performances of Bhutan stock market, and my stock investment portfolio.
How Was the Stock Market of Bhutan?
Market Situations
During March month, the total trade was Nu.154M. 62.5% of them was an OTC trade and rest mCaMs trade.
Benchmark Index
Bhutan Stock Index (BSI) started the month at 1430.69 points and ended at 1513.47 points.
This means BSI gained 82.80 points this month. It shows overall bullish sentiment in the market.

This March, 5 counters ended down in red, 11 in green and rest 2 tickers remained unchanged.
If we look at significant gainers / losers, STCB gained the most and BPCL lost the most. SVL still trades below face value.
Did I Make Changes in Total Holdings?
Tickers BUY
I purchased 250 of BIL at Nu.76, and 300 of TBL at Nu.50. I used the sale proceeds of DPL.
The actual investment is Nu.34,340. The balance is a brokerage fee paid to my stock broker.
Tickers SALE
I managed to sell 100% of my DPL holdings. Its average purchase price was Nu.13.54.
But, I could sell some at Nu. 15.5, some at Nu. 16 and majority at Nu.18. The total net profit was Nu.11,270.
How CD’s Stock Portfolio Performed?
3 counters in my portfolio are below their purchase prices. But 6 of them are still positive. The biggest gainer is BIL.
This month’s unrealized profit is a new record. It beat the records of past months.
The overall unrealized profit is 23.92% and the unrealized loss is 0.68% in the current value of my stock portfolio.
The Month’s Lessons & Future Plans?
This time I managed to sell most of DPL at an ATH price Nu.18. It’s good to see 10 counters in my investment portfolio.
Though 10 counters look quite manageable, still I intend to bring it down to 8 counters.
Some counters are better off being removed – they don’t seem to create value for holdings.
However, I will also not rush to sell them just for the sake of selling. I will target to sell at profit. March is good as most tickers become active and attain ATH prices.
How was your stock portfolios in Mar? Did it keep up your expectations? What’s your plan for next month?
